Caya and Mary

I have two friends that never are apart

Caya and Mary are the names that society gave them.

They are so different is the thing.

Caya is happy while Mary Stays blue or green rather in that she is and allusion to what Caya is not.

They function so well together, and I adore their company.

++ This poem is an allusion to two of my crazy friends that I have been hanging out with.

Life in English

When English is your life you look forward to the late nights. The coffee and the bright lights are constant companions to the world that swims in my mind.

Pablo Neruda has a brief conversation with Miguel Algarin while Pinero was taken down through the Loisaira

And I here writing in this shady diner thinking of those before who fell in love with English.

+++ I wrote this in my head late one night during Fall Finals week.

Red Strip Blues

I got a bad case of the Red Stripe Blues

Its seems Ive had one too many to drink

Ive lost both my shoes

And it seems to be all I can think

Oh those Red Stripe Blues.

++ I wrote this late one night while I was having a brew and thinking. There really is no cultural or emotional connection to this particular poem, I just love that I as a human being am able to happily connect thoughts to my fingers and then add them to the blog spot I have. Writing is my life.

Black Prez or No Prez...

The nation welcomed the first black man to hold the office of President this year.
The nation stood and they applauded, but did they mean what they put forth. Do the people of our nation embrace the new and diverse face of the so long Blank Nation, or was it that uncomfortable good sport applause.

Our people now have the chance to look up at the face of change and to realize that the face is the face that we all longed to see. The humble Chicagoan has taken the seat-oh dear what a feat.

My love for the Black President is deeper than my love for the black precedent. My love resonates in the Change and the crushing determination of a man that is like me, taking by cultural and diverse force the throne that he deserves.

Hail Obama, the great king of Change !!!!

+++ The United States of America has ushered in the brand new era of the diversity and has elected the first Black President. I am so stoked America, I really am. There is not really much that i wish to say in this part of the column, except that I Love You my fellow Americans, you are the people that made this all possible and for that you should be elated. God Bless America, And Bless our President...Our Black President.

Lunch with Iron Man

I Had lunch with Iron Man the other day,
He told me that he simply could not sleep in these times,
That the drinking did'nt stop the threat of the crimes.
Iron Man explained that in the good old days all that was wrong could be solved in 13 frames or less...
But in today's world the heart and the mind was more suited as a mess.
The sad fact, said Iron Man, is that the violence has just gotten too broad
No longer does the idea that a man alone can change the world resonate...
Iron Man said that the colors were not vibrant anymore, that Mr. Lee would never have sketched these things in an issue.
These atrocities are problems of those with no heart....then he asked for the tissue.
How do things get so bad that even our superheroes cry ?

******This blog doesn't really have any deep emotional meaning. I just thought of this while sitting in my Latino Lit class and thought it would be neat to kind of expand. I also love comics and the new Iron Man movie just came out. By the way readers if you have not seen this movie, stop reading my blog and go to the Blockbuster and rent it.
Truly however, we have a lot of violence in our world and our community. What the world needs is heroes. Whether they come in the form of billionaire playboys with iron suits and advanced technology, or just the dude that goes the extra mile to help you when you run out of gas. I ask that anyone reading this just take a moment everyday to say thank you to anyone that helps you.

Shout Out to the Other Real Poets

I most recently read a few poems from an Armenian Poetry spot here on blogger. com. I really enjoyed the poems because they all have true life account of what happens in the Armenian culture. I also enjoyed the fact that the poems are all very, very visual and paint very clear pictures of what exactly is being described. The reason I was drawn to these poems is because they are all very similar to the poems that I am writing, in that they describe the perspective and point of view of a culture. My culture for example is that of an African American college student who is working to break a stereotype and establish himself as a writer. On the other side of that, The Armenian Poetry movement is one that is bringing to the forefront works of writing that the world may have never have even decided to look into. I encourage anyone that is interested and would like to check out this poetry to do so.

Estudante da Revolução

+++ Our zoo very much has walls, and they are much too high for us to climb alone ...

I beg you my fellow man, let us not be like the gorillas that are locked in a cage. Let us instead be guerrillas of education and rage

Not blind like those that rape, pillage, and steal. But with the rage that makes us all so real

March with me my brothers and sisters, I promise you it is well worth the walk

Bring your boys and girls, bring your open minds, we must find a place to read and talk

I tell you, knowing that our zookeepers are not that kind,

That there is no need for shouting or blatant violence,

We must instead let no day go by in silence

We can teach our people together, hand in hand, person to person, and band to band

Take this poetry and show them... that guerrillas too can stand.

+ I had the inspiration for this particular poem as I pondered the current state of things with in our country. I just noticed that there are certain groups of people that are busy following and listening to the things that they are so used to hearing. For example the people that are so used to doing things one way, to only thinking one way, and then making the decision to treat that as the only way. The poem to me is a speech to the gorilla ( the person who is blind and does not want to see) from a guerrilla ( the person who is willing to fight and seek knowledge). It's far too common in todays world to literally overlook what is happening in front of our faces, simply because the people around us say it is not there. Does our world not turn because we don't see it ? Do our leaders of the world not sin because we do not hear of it on the nightly news ? To the gorillas no, because they will not look. But to the guerrillas, we have already seen. I say it with pride and conviction, our zookeepers are not that kind. One day they too will learn that they were the true gorillas all along...

Mission Statement

While they wear blue, Ill Stay Black

As Long as they Rule I am prone to fight back

I am a Negro poet, a soldier armed with Pen and Pack

My head under a helmet, that flies our colors of centuries back

Green for the land that we tilled

Red for the blood of my brothers killed

And Black, bearing skin yet to be healed

I stand as a United Negro Poet, we are the only force to be feared

-C.S Griffin

*** This poem came to me as I was sitting in the courtyard outside. I was wearing a hat that bore the colors of Rastafari, and thats where the inspiration for the helmet came in. Also this poem is a reflection of my recent embrace of my African American culture. I spoke to my mother about this poem shortly after writing it and she liked it very much. I hope that you readers, if there are any of you, will give me feedback on your reaction to the poem. Don't worry about offending me either, I want to deliver the best product to the world, so I welcome criticism.
